چکیده
This present paper reports a study of the efficiency of an anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) composed of three chambers working as the first stage of a biological treatment system for swine wastewater, over a period of 116 days. The average value of the volumetric organic loading rate (VOLR) was 17.8 kgCODtotal m d, the biological organic loading rates (BOLR) based on total and filtered COD influents of 14381 mg L and 3610 mg L, respectively, were: 1.3 kgCODtotal kgTVS d and 0.98 kgCODfiltered kgTVS d, respectively, and the hydraulic loading rate (HLR) was about 1.4 m m d. The average removal efficiency for total COD was 80% at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of about 18 hours. The average alkalinity in the effluent was 3801 mgCaCO3 L. The average removal efficiencies for oil and grease and total soluble solids were 41% and 78%, respectively. The sludge granulation and biogas production in the ABR were quite different between the first and third compartment, showing a distinct microbial consortium in each chamber. Through this research it was confirmed that this type of reactor can be employed as the first stage in a system treating swine wastewater.

Slaughterhouse wastewater treatment by combined anaerobic baffled reactor and anaerobic filter: study of OLR and HRT optimization in ABR/AF reactors
Background: Slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW) is hardly treated due to the large amount of organic matter, nutrients and suspended solids. These materials are naturally decomposed through biological processes, and then environmental pollution, transmission of pathogens and problems become smelled. Conventional purification methods require high investment costs, high energy consumption and expert ...
متن کاملCoupled Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR)/Activated Sludge Treatment of Synthetic Wastewater with High Concentration of Sulfate and COD
A synthetic wastewater with high concentration of sulfate and COD was treated in anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) coupled with an activated sludge. The work was accomplished in two phases. In the first phase, the concentration of sulfate was kept constant at 500mg/l, but COD concentration was increased from (3000mg/l to 6000mg/l), consequently, COD and sulfate removal in ABR reached to 80% and 9...

Background & objectives: Anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) is one of the low cost wastewater treatment systems compared to the aerobic method. Hoverer it should be studied and developed to overcome its limitations such as insufficient nutrient removal. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the 5 sectional ABR pilot and improve it with integrated electric coagulation process for ...

Background: Although anaerobic system has been successfully used for treating the strong industrial wastewater, its efficiency for low-strength wastewater as municipal wastewater is not satisfying. This study aimed to enhance the capability of an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) for treating municipal wastewater. Methods: A 7-L ABR with 5 compartments was operated for a 287-day period fed with ...
